Poetic Analysis
                                                         Dream of Better Things

The poem “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was written by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. In my opinion this poem is very inspiring because it made me want to help someone who was sad. The poem also inspired me to stay strong when I am sad because I know things will get better. I think that the poem is especially inspiring for sad viewers because it relates to the viewers because it is a sad poem that has a positive message for its viewers. The poem relates to sad readers to show them that things will get better.

The poem relates to it's sad viewers and gives them hope that it will get better through the lyrics. One line that shows this is “And the dreams that you dream of. Dreams really do come true”. This line shows that if they dream it will come true, this gives them inspiration to be better. This line made me want to go dream of better things, which is exactly what the poem wants us to do because dreaming can help people when they are in a sad situation in life.

In the poem another line that inspires its viewers is "Someday, I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me, Where troubles melt like lemon drops”. This line gives it's readers hope that things will get better because it shows that if you wish for things then the bad will be left behind you. I believe the star is a metaphor for happiness and the clouds is for sad or bad things. I think the second part of the line “where troubles melt like drops” is trying to show the readers that all the troubles will go away when you wish for better things. This also shows the readers to leave the sad times(clouds) behind you or in the past and move onto better things. The poem is trying to tell its viewers to wish and think of happy/better things and you will get past the sad and bad things.
One last line that shows its viewers when they are in a sad situation things will getter better is “The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky, And also on the faces of people passing by, I see friends shaking hands saying, How do you do? They're really saying I, I love you”. This line gives the viewers hope because it shows them that they will always have someone there for them, you just have to find them. I think the author is trying to say that there are people that care for you and love you. I think that in this line the friends stand for someone who will be there for you saying they love you showing the viewers that in sad times it will get better  if your have someone there for you.
Throughout the poem “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” the author uses inspiring lines to give the readers hope when they are in a sad situation that things will get better. The author uses metaphors to show the viewers ways that help the viewers get better or inspire them to dream for better things. For example the author tells the readers to “wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me” to show them to dream of better happier things and the bad things like the clouds will be left behind you in the past.
